We took the plunge and purchased a 2026 KIA EV9 suv to replace our 2017 Expedition Platinum XL.

There was a $7500 tax credit on it, which goes away on September 30.

We did some calculations and the cost per mile for fuel will be about 4 cents per mile compared to about 14-15 cents per mile with the Expedition. This is the long-range version and they claim we should get about 300+ miles on a full charge. It is NOT the highest trim level, but it has all the necessities. And it claims to be a 7 passenger, but 7 adults would be very uncomfortable.

We installed a charging station at my shop, and it took about 7 hours to go from 25% to 100%. Based on my wife's driving, she should need to charge it about every 8-10 days at a cost of about $10-$12 per charge here at home. There are other DC charging stations available that will charge in about 30 minutes. I don't know how much the cost would be at those stations.

It comes with a 10 year/100,000-mile power train warranty, which includes the batteries. This was one of the biggest selling points.

I find the air conditioner works very well, even here in South Louisiana heat and humidity.

Out of all the offerings out there, why choose KIA? Doesnt everyone else have a 100,00 mile battery warranty?

Does your KIA want you to charge to 100%?
The Chevy Equinox wants you to limit normal charging to 80%, only charging to 100% just prior to long trips.
We are averaging 2.7-2.8 miles per kwh for the life time and for the current. When we didn't need AC or heat we were about 3.6-3.8 miles per kwh.
So at our cost of electricity be $0.22 / kwh and 2.8 miles/kwh we are about 8 cents per mile assuming 100% efficiency of the charging system.
Knock that down to a more realistic 80% efficiency for charging and we are about 10 cents per mile just for electricity.

What's its tow capacity ?

The model I have is 2000 lbs if you add a brake controller. My trim level is the "Light Long Range". Mine is 2-wheel drive. The higher trim levels in 4-wheel drive have a towing capacity of up to 5000 lbs.

Also, towing is not something I plan to do with this vehicle. If you look in the pictures, I already have a 1 ton Ram, a 3/4 ton Ram, and I have a 1/2 ton GMC AT4 not pictured.

My daughter and son in law have a Kia EV9, and they love it. Not many EV's have a 7-passenger capacity. Also, I have purchased most of my vehicles from the same dealership, and they give good service. This is the 3rd new vehicle I get from them in the past year. I am comfortable doing business with them.

On the Chevy you can set what it will charge too on the Chevy app.
Is that the total cost? On our bills the delivery is higher then the power cost.
I just divide the total bill by the kwh used.

I went look in the KIA app and found where I can change the charge limits.

I set the AC limit to 90% and the DC charge limit to 80%.

I think that is the total cost of our electricity. I am on a rural electric co-op and we have some of the lowest rates anywhere.
