Electric vehicles during a disaster

I saw a recent article on MSNBC. An electric car - somewhere in CA - caught fire and burned. Got caught trying to drive thru the water. Water was too deep. Shorted out the battery and BURN, BABY - BURN. Makes me wonder about these new electric - Jeep, Hummer and the like. Tough way to start your campfire.

When we lived in Anchorage it was all natural gas. It was dirt cheap and all new houses were NG. Never had any problems with explosions or fires. Not even during the big earthquake.
