What are you smoking?? Technology is already there. I've seen news articles where law enforcement has contacted the GM On-star system to shut down vehicles they were trying to apprehend.

"Millions of people would have to be hired"??? For what?
Nope you saw a News Article and read something into it that was not there.

"OnStar can provide your stolen vehicle's location to police. Remote Ignition Block™ can prevent a thief from restarting."

That is a know vehicle where the police provided the owners name, address, serial number of the vehicle and the On Star Membership number.

On Star or anyone else would have to be completely brain dead to cut off the motor in a vehicle containing people with the vehicle moving. The idiot would wreck it so he/she could sue. What has people upset about technology is a lot of the $.0 down and 0% percent interest people are finding out if you don't make monthly payments or pay for the vehicle if a GM product, On Star can prevent you from starting. No startee-No-drivee.

Yep many times, heck some of the COPS type shows have the audio of the conversations with ON STAR employees and shutting the vehicle down to within a second or two of the police command. In some cases it saves the owner from having a massively damaged stolen vehicle returned.
On the Other Hand... That does not lessen the ability to control an owners car for some other purpose or reason.
Ford’s hemmoraging billions on EV’s.
But we live in a police state now. Whatever they say, you better do it, or else….

Whenever someone says “EVs are mostly built in China”, their protectors always say “Tesla is American made”.
Too bad all the components and the other EV companies are sourcing technology & parts from China.

Just to be clear on the "parts source" when talking Tesla, Being a vertically Integrated company many parts are built in the USA.
More American made content, than any other Companies vehicles sold in the US at least when considering Model Y ,3, X, and S.
The Cybertruck has not been added to the list, yet.
I would consider the new Ramcharger before a Cybertruck.

Nope, they can and have shut down vehicles while being driven.

That's NOT how it works. The motor is not just shut off so there is loss of control. Read the articles I posted...the vehicle GRADUALLY loses power until it finally cannot go any further.

So this new legislation mandates that type of circuitry be in ALL new vehicles, not just GM-made. And once that circuitry is in place you can bet the powers that be will figure out how to activate it and not just in cases of "impaired driving" which is the stated reason for it.

The interesting thing is at least with stolen cars the manufacturers will not shutdown a vehicle in motion...

Friends had their nearly new Subaru stolen while attending midnight mass.

They were on the phone all night tracking their car but had to wait for the car to be parked before the company would disable it citing liability issues...

Gives "new" meaning to a government ordered "Ground Stop"

Stolen Vehicle Assistance

OnStar Stolen Vehicle Assistance* continues to have the most comprehensive in-vehicle security service available. With industry-leading technologies, such as Remote Ignition Block™ and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown®, public safety can rely on OnStar as a partner to assist with the quick and safe recovery of stolen vehicles.

There are two typical scenarios for initiating Stolen Vehicle Assistance, depending on which party contacts OnStar.
  1. A vehicle owner contacts OnStar after a vehicle has been stolen. OnStar then links the vehicle owner with law enforcement to initiate a report or confirm if one has been started.
  2. In the second scenario, law enforcement contacts OnStar after the owner reports the vehicle as stolen. OnStar then contacts the ECC to verify the report before providing the location to law enforcement.
  • OnStar can pinpoint the location of the stolen vehicle using GPS technology and aerial imagery, then provides this information to authorities. Advisors may also provide the direction of travel and speed the vehicle is traveling.
  • An OnStar Advisor can send a Remote Ignition Block signal to the stolen vehicle, preventing it from being restarted once the engine has been turned off.
  • If the vehicle is still running, the Advisor can activate Stolen Vehicle Slowdown once law enforcement confirms clear sight of the vehicle and indicates conditions are appropriate. The vehicle will slow down to an idle speed of 3–5 mph with steering and braking functions intact.
  • Once recovered by law enforcement, an Advisor may need to send a signal to restore the vehicle's services so it can resume normal driving operations.

You are correct, but where do all those EV battery parts and minerals come from? ICE vehicles are powered by American oil, gas and propane.

What about all the other brands of EV’s? Tesla is just one player. I won’t get into how the gov___ment can control all those electric cars. Too much loss of freedom and Liberty there for this thread to even talk about.

I would love an Electric Truck. I drive short distances 99.5% of the time and the torque would be amazing for towing.

I’ve wondered why the owner of the vehicle needs third party to activate features paid for.

I asked a friend that pulled his battery in his on star pickup when he would be away as a deterrent.

Why can’t on star just disable it in you garage until you say otherwise?
