I friend of mine has a green ym2000, starter and solenoid have been taken to a mechanic and checked, its good. I used a multimeter to check the voltage at the battery and at the starter/solenoid, it read 12.7 volts at both, if you turn the key to the "on" position I get no voltage reading at the starter/solenoid. Turn the key off it read 12.7 again..ground wire somewhere?

turn it to crank I get nothing, no click, nothing. the idiots light also do not light up..

How do I go about testing that to confirm it is indeed the switch?

If you see no melted wires to cause funny issues, that means you can be pretty sure your wires are good. Now jump the solonoid so that the tractor starts. Im sure it will as you said there good. That pretty much points to your switch! You should double check your wires though, cut all the tape back and pull the wire mold off if you have it. There cant be what more than 4-5 wires at most on the switch? Im not sure i have not looked before, but i know threre are very few even running around on this tractor!

Mine does it sometimes. I tap on the connections on the battery posts with a cresent wrench from my tiny toolbox and it fires up. No click, but some idiot lights light up when the key isn't turned to crank it.
