I have a '48 M tractor. Ran when I bought it a few years ago and has been running well until recently. Matter of fact it's a work horse of a tractor.

Month or so ago seemed to lose some power. Now won't start.

Checked a number of things and bottom line there is no spark at the plug. Changed all the usual electronic suspects. Checked the coil (6 volt). Primary was 1.1 ohms and secondary was 9.5.

With switch on I get voltage to the coil via wiring harness.

Any ideas? Appreciate any help.

G'day check you have power to the points when they are open, if so then sit the cap end of the coil lead near a good ground and with ign on open and close the points with a screwdriver and check for spark that will tell you if your coil is working or you can just sit a plug lead near a ground and with distributor cap on get someone to crank it over and see if you get spark to the plug.

If it has a condenser I would replace that. Check for good clean bright connections at the coil terminals and in the distributor. Coil and plug wires can look ok but still be defective. I had a cracked distributor cap stall me along side the freeway in a car one time. Once it got dark enough I saw the spark going to the base of the distributor. I had the old one from the last tune up in the trunk. Threw that on and drove away.
