On my 1401D, there is a fuse box, and it has a fuse for the darned turn signals. It is always blown out. So, I put in a 15A, and it blew it out fast. One of the turn signals works great, when the fuse will work, but as soon as you hit the other one, then you get the blown fuse. I noticed that on that turn signal, that there is a spring in the bottom or the outlet, with a wire that has a copper end on it that touches the bottom of the light bulb, hence making the thing work. The wire won't make a solid contact. What do I do, is there a kit to fix this? I just don't want this to lead to further problems.

Thanks.

Go to your local auto parts store and get a new "pig tail " and spring . There should be a small piece of plastic or nylon insulating it from the socket causeing a short . It is a very simple repair . Might as well buy a new bulb for it while your there.

A poor contact in the bulb holder won't make the fuse blow. You must have a worn wire somewhere making contact with the frame. Check the lead to that turn signal. I think you can do this fairly easily by disconnecting the wire under the fender. tie a piece of string to the wire and pull out the wire pulling in the string. Check the wire thoruoghly. If it is bad, get a new wire and pull it back through the channel using the string...

Well, I drive truck for a living, and remembered that I have 2 brand new turn signals, that have a red lens on the back, and a amber on the front. So, I took them and adapted them to the tractor. The pigtail was the problem. Besides, it looks cool this way. I bought the lights a while ago for $8 each from a truck stop.

Thanks anyway.

Never did figure out what the turn signals were for. I never use them. I guess if you are tilling in tandem, you can let your tilling partner know you are going for a bathroom break.

If you havn't already located the problem by now, here are a few trouble shooting ideas, to localize the area where the short (presumably ) is occouring. ( this may be fuse intensive)

Remove the bulb, ( preferably, disconnect the entire buld socket from the powered line ) and see if the fuse blows, if so, it is farther back. Try the blinker element for that side... dissconnect it. If the fuse still blows, it is still further back... try disconnecting the switch ( assuming the circuitry is as follows: fuse block is the power tap, next is the switch, next is the blinker element, next is the load ( light ).

If the fuse still blows, it is between the fuse block and the switch, or the switch itself.
