When the power company works on poles near my property they always leave piles of junk, cigarette butts and bottles.

I found a packet of 4 of these, but I'm not sure what they are and if they are of any use other than copper scrap.

Writing on device is:

I believe it is an auto splice device for their wire. You stick wire into each end and an internal part grabs it. When pressure is applied it tightens it up like a Chinese handcuff. Stick a piece of wire in each end as far as it will go then try and pull it out. If it won't come out there you have it.

Bear is right. We had power line down in our hunting club recently - I had to cut my way out with my trusty Puma knife to go and get a chainsaw:D - and the electrical company later on used these to reconnect lines.

Yes a copper auto splice. That one I believe is for #2 Solid or #3 stranded copper wire maybe, based on the info. you posted.

Your power company uses more expensive stuff than mine. All the connectors like that I have found around are aluminium.

Thanks, Bird. Maybe I should take off my mittens when I post.

Ok, that does it. I'm sticking to changing light bulbs. Righty tighty, lefty loosey.
