I assume you already checked to make sure the cable was good.
Yes... it's a combo tach/hour meter. Tach still functions, so the cable has to be good. It just quit counting hours.

The one on my 855 did that. Got intermittent about the time I bought it and quit soon after. Fortunately the dealer I bought it used from agreed to give me a new one at no charge.

I personally would prefer to have a meter that is totally electric rather than working from the tach. Considering that I don't always run at the same RPM, I know my hours aren't what the meter reads. Either more or less, the meter is just an approximate.

The original is cable driven mechanical, not electrical. I would like to replace it, but don't like the $110 price tag.

Considering what JD wants for the electronic dash, $110 is a bargain. I would go original, then I would bust into the old one and see what makes it tic.:D
