Electricity rates

I run Ubuntu Linux. A free OS and software. No virus' to worry about. They don't attack Linux boxes as they would get less than 1% of the computing public.

Also very few updates as it is not riddled with bugs.

I use a Mac, and it is the same way. I have been using them for 11 years, and not 1 virus, no frozen screen, and every time I start it, it is like the first time I bought it. Apple runs security updates automatically, and for free, and I know that they say that Mac users let their guard down, but there really is no malware that has ever effected my machine, ever. We are still careful about what personal information we have online, and on our machine, you can never be too safe. We actually bought two of our Macs from eBay, and because they use OS X, they are great running machines, and no need whatsoever for antivirus. Macs also have lots of energy saving features. Linux is very similar, and a great system too!

They are already low power. But I guess it is how one defines "low power" and "huge draw".

Canada_ct230 mentioned that with 3 Alarm Clocks, 2 TVs, 2 Satellite Receivers, 2 Cordless Phone Bases, and 1 Desktop Computer all only adds up to 2.64kwh PER DAY. Even at my 11 cent/kwh rate, that is still only 30 whole whopping cents PER DAY for TEN ITEMS.

I certainly wouldnt call that a "huge" draw
then again $.30/day x 365 days isnt chump change either...... x millions of people

Around here in Manitoba, Canada I pay about $0.677 per KWH and pay a $6.85 admin fee. The hydro utility has paid for me to spray foam my basement walls, bought me CFL bulbs and will pay for attic insulation, pipe wrap, etc. They do this so they can save me electricity so they can sell it south of the border for top dollar. Thanks for eating so much power and buying from Canada and keeping my bill low.

So not much change in daily living but I'll take the $67.

YIKES: i thought the $0.05/KWH i paid was too much. if i had to pay 0.67/KWH id become Amish and use candles

I run a couple dozen systems running various OSes. All of them have bugs in updates and they all have frequent patches. I see weekly updates for security patches to the various Linux/UNIX systems I run as well as the non Linux systems. Linux systems have security issues that require patches and there are antivirus scanners for Linux. Running patch updates and virus scans at night is much better than when someone is trying to use the systems in the day.

Saw a thread on here about saving electricity and made me think about the rates. I just signed up for another year for 8.2 cents per kwh @ 2000 kwh and 8.5 cents per kwh @ 1000 kwh.

What's everyone else paying?
Back to the OP's question -
NE Mississippi - $12.11 for being hooked up, $0.09189 /KWH.
