Elevator for Pole Barn

Looks nice and robust. Metal channel must have cost a bit but, from the pics, it'll probably outlive you

I decided to upgrade the control system on my Pole Barn Loft Elevator. I put two fixed pushbutton stations on the upper and lower levels. A third pushbutton station is movable and travels with the elevator. I purchased the parts on Amazon and built the controller. Here's some pictures. Forgot to mention that I added an additional Low Level Limit switch to maintain some tension on the spool and cable. This feature keeps the steel cable from unravelling on the spool and making a mess. Never use a winch for a hoist application. The hoist has a built in locking feature to prevent free spooling and accidental load dropping.
Great clean & clever build! I may use a couple of your ideas on my next project.

I did something similar a few years back just prior to hip surgery. I made a deck elevator out of an old unused Genie Manlift. I posted this in another thread but it seems appropriate to re-post here:

The lift required extensive modification, but could still be re assembled if necessary to use as originally designed.

The trap door in the deck was a bit tricky. I looked at pneumatic, electric and hydraulic cylinders, but most were too slow. I finally used a series of weights & pulleys so the lift itself would raise & lower the trap.

It came in very handy after surgery and continues to be useful for lifting items up to the second floor. My only regret was not using a bigger platform.

Tony H, I bought the steel from a steel distributor so the price wasn't so bad. Buying full length sections of 20' and 24' left me some extra pieces to use on other projects. It will definitely outlive me.

Thanks. Great idea using the Genie lift and you did a nice job on the build.

Weather warmed up enough to finish painting the Elevator Lift. It's been a handy device and has helped me organize the Pole Barn.

Just sold my 'Hammerblow' bale elevator to a guy down the road as I have no use for it anymore. 30 feet long but could be shortened or lenghtened if required. We live in a ranch style one level house so no elevator required and I dislike steps anyway. Human elevator not in my cards at all.
