I drove out to show them exactly where the problem was and their service manager left early. I will try again on Monday.

it is the wiring plug just out of view toward the front. No protection from rubbing the frame as the wires spread to get into the plugs

Considering the fact that finding something usually involves going through the effort of looking for it, it's little wonder he found it and they didn't.

Not hard, I always tried to make it a win win proposition whenever I could but I was also known to drive a hard bargain. I was usually commonsensical about most things. The mostly Chinese company I used to work for would often defer to me to make some of the more difficult deals which was high praise coming from them since they're no slouches.
