If you need a seat belt on a backhoe, you shouldn't be operating one.

hahaha.

My regular max 28xl has one. It's retractable and attached to the seat. That changed somewhere along the line as some have said they have a regular friction type.

The max 28 has two stock seats, that I'm aware of. Since I didn't get the backhoe, I have the standard non-swivel seat. And the seatbelt for that is the friction type.

Having slow speed work on flat ground, with the bucket low, the seatbelt is unused on mine.

I haven't worn a seatbelt when motorcycling triple digits either.

So, if the Owners manual says wear one and you accept ALL liability don't wear one!!!!!!!!
Actually Mahindra came up with a pair of brackets for me to try, they could not get Max 24 belts with retractors
to work because of interference with bucket joy stick.
If you dig only in sand and never encounter a rock or roots, go ahead and don't wear one, a basic Darwin solution.

Yours is a horse of a different breed. My backhoe did not come with a seat belt and the manual makes no mention of it. I've dug in shale, river rock, heavy clay and more. I guess on the eMax the Mahindra folks are afraid a person will be bucked off and fly out of the saddle.

The Operators manual for the eMax backhoe, the 25B on page 3 says: "Caution: It is recommended that the tractor be equipped with Rollover Protection System (ROPS) and seat belt be used for all implement operations (excluding backhoe operation)."

So it appears the seatbelt not being right for the backhoe position was not an oversight.

as a side story:

I have an old Feguson with a Kelley hoe on the back. It mounts on the 3pt. I was digging a deep hole one day when the top link broke.

It's actually a much bigger steel bar than a regular top link, I call it a top link so you'll understand what I mean.

When it broke, it broke with the hoe at it a high position, the whole hoe went down, pivoting on the lower points of connection and I went off the seat and into the hole, but was able to jump off so I didn't face plant in the hole.

If I had a seat belt on, I would have gone either chest, neck or face first into the control levers. I probably would have been severely hurt, but as it was, I pretty much cleared everything and had no damage to me at all.

I don't want a belt on a hoe.
