Some of the real cheap guns' couplers are not adjustable. You take what you get, which is why they were so cheap in both (cents) of the word.

There are many articles on the web about using a grease gun. As previously stated just google using a grease gun. Here is a link to a discussion on loading a grease gun. I put a pdf in there that helped me alot.
ihookem said:Look in the grease gun fitting and you might notice there are prongs in there. If they are not lined up right the fitting won't go in the grease gun. Mine does the same thing with my new fitting. My old one works perfect. I think it's because of a cheap female fitting in the gun.
