Here is my story ... I got my first tractor a few months ago :newhere:(Kubota BX 2350). The second day I had it, I decided to use my FEL to move a couple hundred pounds of cement bags to the back of my house which is down a steep incline. Like an idiot I did not put it in 4WD or use a rear weight and ended up sliding down the hill faster and faster until the hill leveled out. Scared the you-know-what out of me .
.

Seems like that would be a good time to drop that bucket to the ground and let it become a brake. :D

Two come to mind...

I was discing 80 acres to get Treflan worked in before we planted beans. I was at the far end of the field and saw a car pull up behind my pickup by the road. Being a farm boy, I waved like we do, not knowing who was there, and they waved back like crazy. I was at least a 1/4 mile from road when the friendly guy dropped my tailgate, lifted out two full tool boxes, waved again, put the tool boxes in his car and happily drove off.

The second was a time I was sent out to run a field cultivator in an 80 that we rented. There was a rental house that 3 college girls lived in on the place. Of course at 16 you just gotta keep an eye out in that situation, neighborly sorta thing.

Two of the girls were on the patio sunning and had grill going. So I changed my driving pattern to get a better look. As I made a turn right by the house, I was looking right rather than looking ahead, made my turn just as smartly as can be, and proudly dropped the FC and hit the throttle. They watched and looked...i figured it was the young stud on the tractor they were so impressed with. What woman is not impressed by a shirtless 16 yr old making dust and throwing diesel to full power?

About 3 min later, I glanced back....I was dragging about 120 feet of neighbors woven wire fence and so many posts.

Worst afternoon of my life was resetting the posts, unrolling the wire and stretching it while the neighbor and dad made sure it was done right...sitting over with the college girls drinking tea and pointing out how I should do the repair.

yep.. tractor work is generally boring to the non ag people.. thus when i see some people staring at me while I'm working.. i tend to look back at the rear implement alot to make sure I'm not hitting cars or ripping fences down :)

I'm new here and it figures my first post would be in this thread... but I have to say that after reading these posts I'm feeling a bit better about backing into the shed today.

We just bought a used JD 4400,which I spent 13 hours on today digging out a hillside to build a retaining wall. When I went to park it to head in for dinner I manged to punch a 8" X 2' hole in the shed wall with the backhoe and cracked a stud.

The wife asked how it went and I say well the good news is the tractor is fine...

Friendly tip: When you're backing up, especially when close to the wife's car, keep an eye on where the loader bucket is... a little wander on the steering wheel and she'll have JD green pinstripes, if you're lucky.

Mornin' Sean,

You sound experianced about this. The part I can't figure out is how you would have given JD green pinstripes with that orange tractor you have.:D

Hope everything's going well over your way.
