Just because a critter has cancer does not mean that one has to spend lots of money to keep them alive or to keep them alive with a decent quality of life for a period of time.
The vet's found that Chase had cancer for the second time and that it had spread doing surgery for a growth we had felt. They said she might live 3-4 months. Do you want us to just turn the knob and put her down or sew her up and send her home.
She went home and lived 6 months. I am sure we spent a small sum of money for meds but not a bunch. And she was worth every dang cent.
When it was time to put her to sleep she let us know. The vet came to the house and did it. My dog Kelly howled when Chase's heart stopped beating. Kelly nosed Chases body and knew Chase was gone. One of Kelly's nickname was The Nose. She always put that nose in places.
My nickname for Chase was Lady because she was a Lady.
She was worth the itty bit of money we spent on her. And it was worth having her around for 6 more months.
Chase and Kelly are both gone now. They were far more intelligent, caring and worthwhile than many people I have known. They never hurt anyone, just gave loyalty and love for some water, food and meds. Cheap they was.

Dan
