The earth wobbles,,,north can be slightly different,[a degree or two],in the course of many years,,,in other words,,,what was due north 75 years ago,two or three degrees over several hundred yards, can make a big difference,,might not be now,,,,,,don't know this for fact,,,but believe it so,,,I think surveyers,,have to calibrate their instruments to this fact???? thingy

DannyD asked in a PM that I post a pic of our Bamboo "forrest."

It's the green stuff between the old apple tree by the picnic table, and the pine tree behind the shed.

I'm going to guess it goes about 120 feet back in the direction the picture is looking, and may be 50 or 60 feet wide (or more).

Another thing nice about the bamboo is that it is evergreen. Looks nice in winter with snow in the background and red cardinals sitting in it... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here is a second shot that may actually be of more interest.

Daughter and I transplanted some bamboo up next to the road a couple of weeks ago. The bamboo behind us on the right is about three years old. You can see how thick even a patch about 3' thick gets, with all the small leaves in there.

Actually it is better as a screen if it does not grow too high, as when it grows high, the leaves tend to grow towards the top and the stalks are smooth and bare at the bottom third or so.

Again, being evergreen, it serves as a screen year round...

OK, Sunday afternoon, the ATV starts, no less than 6 hours later it is still going strong. I think next Saturday morning about 5:30 I am going to mow my neighbors grass, the one next to his house, and then trim the lawn while he is out trying to enjoy the family time he has every Saturday. My weed eater is very noisy and the tractor will be back from service 59 hours so I can run it at full blast.........

One of his riders did make the mistake of turning and throwing up grass and dirt on my side........told him he can tear up theirs but keep the #@%$% thing off of my propery. Then I told him the noise on a Sunday afternoon was not appreciated.

I may just put up the fence and forget buying it.

If you really want a fence I'll send you a nice pink rose. Plant it and in two years NOTHING will go through it.

Would that work on 360' of line, about 8 feet high, and work as a sound barrier also?

I'll bet it would. We've got a variety here that grows tall, wide & fast. Grows up trees & chokes them. A real nuisance bush. The feelers it sends out grab you as you mow beside it, the thorns are real effective, I keep pruners with me as I mow.

I have so much wild rose/ multi floral rose I hate that stuff bad. I get flats form them as they are OLD ones with stalks @ root ball in the 2~4" thick range! bigest reason I bought inespensive china tractor was I needed to drive through thickets of this stuff that was 30' high. which I did no my first day of tractor ownership! dropped the FEL and drove right into the mist of 100' square patch of the stuff! I don't think any BIG 3 Owner would have done that with their investment!

Anyhow those things spread so bad because of birds getting the berry/seeds.. and well you know! I get NEW bushed every year popping up next to every tree in sight as well out in the middle of the yard... and they DO kill trees by sucking up moisture & over loading lower branches. I have them 30~40' up in trees on my place as they grow almost like a grape vine...

Ya beat me to it. A neighbor of mine had a lot of trouble with kids cutting through his property (and mine.) He planted roses. "Friendly barbed wire." The kids found a more pleasant route.
