WOW.... For a low budget idea it turned out great. I would prefer something I could take off in the warmer months also. This looks very simple yet functional. An A+ on your assignment.

I have never used the spreader with sand or salt, just lime and fertilizer, but, as long as those things were dry, I would think they would work. There would be some monkeying with pto rpm's and chute openings to get the right distribution rate, but those are the same issues with putting down anything else.

Hey, that's pretty slick for $150. What did you fasten the front posts to? I have a 2305 with a blower and have been trying to think of a low cost way to do the same thing. I had even looked at the all fatric/plastic garden tractor enclosures that Sears sells (Less than $200) but I think they would be too small.

Just here to report on my home made plexi enclosure after much winter snow blowing and FEL scraping.
It's GREAT! Cuts wind, am warm and excellent visibility. Save yourselves 3000$ and have fun making one, unless of course you're working in areas where sizable things can fall on your CUT.
I forgot to mention to a few in e-mails that the roof is poster board type cell structure, about 1/2 inch thick. It's sturdy enough.
