Said guy claims to give the snap on truck guy $50k a year. I don稚 think a pile of broken screw drivers and a broken ratchet is going to hurt them.

That is no excuse for tool abuse. $50K a year (every year) has to be an exaggeration unless he has a huge shop with lots of mechanics. That is a quarter million dollars in 5 years. I certainly would not take something to a shop that uses a backhoe on a 1 inch drive.

I believe this is why LL Bean stopped their Lifetime Gaurantee policy. Too many people buying an old LL Bean item at garage sales or thrift shops and exchanging for new off the shelf items. It痴 an abuse of a well intentioned and useful policy that is now gone.
Most definitely. Although it was actually "satisfaction guaranteed" rather than lifetime. I've gotten
into several heated discussions about this; i.e. I bought a new pair of snowshoes with the traditional rawhide babiche. The first time that I wore them I was a mile from the truck when the webbing disintegrated, so I took them back and exchanged for a pair with neoprene webbing. That pair lasted me 10 years before wearing out from normal wear and tear. I was a "satisfied customer." Yet a coworker wanted me to give them to him so that he could return them for a new pair. He would have been a "dissatisfied customer"... or at least something which starts with di. (and rhymes with big tread.)

All those guarantees should be a thing of the past with a world full of scammers.

He said he was working on a truck on the side road and had already gave up with his biggest impact and longest pipe. Then a backhoe drove by.

That's funny, I have had the same problem with access to the same tools (1" ratchet and backhoe) but never thought to use them together.

There痴 nothing worse than a thief imo. I壇 love to see them every one hung on the court house lawn. Someone stole my favorite weed eater a few weeks ago. They broke into my barn and took a battery charger, gas cans and a few old batteries, several years before that they stole everything they could carry from my garage.

One neighbor that repeatedly got broken in started to hide all the remotes for his electronics to devaluate the thief's take.
Thief would wait 5-6 months to hit again and take the replacements.
By total fluke I identified the thief and he was nabbed and brought to court.
He was let off with a warning as he pleaded guilty.
Must add that locally the perp was a well known frequent 'bad apple'.

Courts paid me $4.50 for my 1/2 day saying my testimony was not needed. Told them to keep the check!
Fact it was for mileage only and at that they short changed me in that they only remit extreme shortest distance between borough lines.(i.e., I clocked 120 and they paid only 60)
But had I not shown up as a whiteness I would have faced serious consequences.

It is no wonder nobody ever sees anything!

What kind of court gives a guy a warning if they plead guilty to theft? This world is going nuts.

Making it worst, the perp said it was not his fault as friends got him drunk and he was dared to do the misdeed.
Part of the sentence was that the perp was sentenced to avoid that specific bar for 3 months.

Now, locally that particular bar is well known as a drug den, fence hangout and whatever bad connotation you wish to attach.
AKA, hells angles owned.
Naturally the judge was not aware of that fact nor did the prosecutor or enforcement inform him, I could have but was never called to the stand.

Back to the conversation regarding Craftsman tools. In the current issue of Haggerty Collector Car magazine there is an article written by Wayne Carini expressing his lifelong love and adoration towards Craftsman tools. If Lowes can get the toothpaste back in the tube, so to speak, the Craftsman tool purchase could work very well for them. There's an army of guys out there that want to buy American tools--Craftsman tools--and recapture what used to be. Count me in on that.

Stanley did advertise through press releases after the acquisition that they were bringing Craftsman back home, and that the tools "will be built in the USA with global materials". That appears to be the plan, just as they do with their other tools, mainly imported. If they could at least boost the quality that would go a long way from where they are today. It's a very unique arrangement they have with the Craftsman name though, as Sears can still build tools with the name. How do you control quality or reputation when its a common brand name thrown on the product being produced from various sources and to be sold by competitors? A couple years ago, Sears started a line of Craftsman Industrial (I think?) that was all made in USA and only sold through higher end suppliers. Maybe that is still alive?
