magicheater, I envy you and alot of people that have your type of unit. I'm talking about the cheapest heat for the buck, but payback time in my lifetime, and a shorter time return considering my age . (versus lifetime expectancy of the unit and also me ((to face reallity)) is limited. this is what I'm really looking at and also being able to try different products. if I were still younger I would def. have hydrosil and a heat pump. at this time I'm just trying to get by without a lot of initial cost. and yes, it's hoping for the impossible. lot's of good info though.

There are so many factors that go into deciding what sort of heat you want. Some want hands on (wood) and some want hands off (gas/electric), using solar as I do, it lessens the duration of the others. To make a decision solely on payback time may leave you in the cold. At our age I would take comfort and then payback into the decision. I burn more wood than I used to before I got my boiler but I am way more comfortable despite the efficiencies of the devices I was using before that. I may cut more wood but I split way less! Nowadays not every house can be adapted for all the different types of heating systems. Mine is almost impossible to do with duct work so I solved it with what I had in place and choose the system that fit. The cheapest heat for the buck is to burn free pallet wood in a wood stove/masonry hybrid. Best of both worlds and the fuel is free but you must prepare it and feed the stove. Insulation would be the other thing I would check for optimum efficiencies for whatever you finally decide on. Excuse me but I need to go throw a chunk in the boiler!:)

It is still an electric heater. 1W in will net 3.41BTU out PERIOD. Electric heaters CANNOT get any more efficent than that.

How are those hucksters going to get $300-$400, for a box with a couple of light bulbs in it, if you put out this kind of information?

I tried in vain to make this point to my barber, last winter.

I told him Wally World had an infrared heater, with a fan, that would do the same thing, for $59.

Too late, he had already drank the Kool-Aid.

Don't forget the company (I cant remember) which gives away the heaters for FREE:D

All you have to do is buy the $299 Amish mantel that it goes in:laughing:

What a joke.

Yep the Edenpure shtick is living proof that there are suckers born every minute. They are not on wit more efficient than the cheapest electric heater in the big box store.
