On an X500, will I reduce wear and tear on the PTO clutch if I engage it at high idle instead of full throttle, or is full throttle better?

Thanks in advance.

I only ever engage an implement at just enough RPM not to stall the engine, then increase.

Same here. I was just curious because some folks claim you should engage at full throttle. That's why I posed the question. Thanks.

All depends on how fast you want to wear the PTO clutch out.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

Kind of the same with a manual car, unless you are into drag racing and breaking things.

On my X540 I engage the deck just above idle by applying the choke about halfway first. This keeps the engine from stalling and prevents the jerk and belts squealing. Prior to this had to be close to full throttle or the engine would stall.

Good idea. I'll give that a try. Thanks.
