engine Block Heater

The M-F block heater I put on my 2310 was expensive but fit perfectly and was pretty easy to install. No leaks, works great to ease starting.

(Shown with a garden hose cap covering the electrical plug.)

I wanted one put on my new GC2400. Dealer told me they always go with the magnetic stick on type. He said "no matter what you do, someday it's gonna leak". Made since to me.

My answer to that is: find yourself a MF dealer that will perform the work that you request to be done on your tractor, :confused2:. What a lame excuse for a MF dealer to not install a real good MF blockheater product,. KC :D :D :D

I was right, just tried using magnetic thing. Real POS. Gonna trade it for a real one.

I have a block heater on my MF 1529. It works great. I have it on a timer wher it heats for 2hrs every morning. Starts up with ease and no more smelly puff of black smoke.

Is that the MF version or another? Looks nice and clean, and I'm guessing would be similar on my 1531.

I have had dealer-installed engine bolock heaters on all of my small Masseys since 1991. I don't know exactly how many, but quite a few. They have all worked great and never had one leak yet. I use a timer to heat the tractor up for about 2 hours when I know I am going to use it. They start like a spring day, and I am sure that it is much easier on the engine.

When I order a new tractor that is part of the deal. The dealer has to install an engine block heater before I take delivery.

MF version it is. Dealer installed. Asked for the block heater and 1st 50hr service to seal the deal.

So my MF block heater has arrived. Any advice for installation on a GC? Is it going to make a mess pulling the freeze plug? Do I need to drain or lower a level. Anybody done this themselves?

I have not. But, in the interest of finding a less expensive solution for the other members, could you take accurate measurements, and post them? We will need the diameter, and the amount of projection the element has, (length).

Drain the cooling system, hit the core plug off center to loosen in and turn it at an angle and then pull it out with a set of pliers. Be careful not to knock it into the water jacket cause it's easy to do.(Don't ask how I know this!) If you do, have magnet handy to fish it out. It took me about 20 minutes to install mine on a Ford 4610 but it depends on the location of the core plug.

Clean the the bore of the core plug hole well and install the freeze plug tightening the bolt. Make sure tht you follow the instructions about the orientation of the element. Plug the cord into the heater and then refil the cooling system and start the tractor and let it warm up with the rad cap off til the thermostat opens and check the coolant level. Check for leaks around the newly installed block heater when you put the cap on and the system pressurizes.

When you're ready to use it, plug it in a couple of hours before you need the tractor or by a timer that will turn it on for you a couple hours before you need it. The instructions usually tell you not to have the heater plugged in with a running engine and you should follow this advice for element longevity. Some folks use remote control electrical switches to turn the heaters on from the house before they use the tractor. I feed our cows everyday ~4:00 pm and my timer goes on at 2:00 pm and the tractor starts on the first rev in the coldest weather we have.
