I have a 2000 2710. Yesterday I was mowing and needed to move to a different field. I turned the mower off (60" MMM) and lifted the hitch and changed to HIGH gear to get to the other field. (down a drive) When I released the clutch and stepped on the gas the engine almost died. It worked it's way back up but it definitely "bogged" down for some reason. I tried this action several times with the same result (pressing the gas down in HIGH). I tried this in MEDIUM and had no problem. Engine did not "bog" at all. Any suggestions? I have 152 hours on my tractor currently. I last replaced the fuel filter at 125 hours. This is the first time this has happened to the tractor.

i would start with the fuel filter and go from there.

OK, Greg, you've got me confused. When you say stepped on the gas, are you talking about stepping on the hydro pedal? What rpm did you have the throttle set on? I guess you do know that you set the engine speed with the throttle lever, and your travel speed with the hydro pedal, and the farther down you press the pedal is like changing to a higher gear, not more gas. If you ease down on the pedal, the tractor should take off smoothly. If pushing the pedal down seems to bog down the tractor, the solution is to ease up on the pedal, not push farther down (or pull the throttle lever toward you to increase the rpm).

Sorry to confuse you Bird. I had the RPM's set at 2500. Yes, I mean stepping down on the hydro. I did not try the easing down while in high. I will have to try that. In the past though, I have been able to "spin" the wheels if I step down on the hydro pedal while in high. (while in the driveway) This time, when I stepped down on the hydro, the engine "bogged" down and the tractor moved very slow until the engine caught back up with itself. If I performed this same function while in Medium, the tractor took off as normal.

OK, so now I'll just have to admit that I don't know what could cause that.

I prefer to think of it as the tractor losing traction :~>. I don't do these on a regular basis, but it has happened in the past :)

I'd start with fuel filter. Cut the old filter open with a hack saw and look for black junk or water.

have you looked at both air filters?
