Engine bogs down????

I looked at the fuel filter (through the glass anyway) last night. Nothing appears obvious. I will take it out and replace it this weekend. I have cleaned the air filters on a regular basis. Might be time to replace huh? I will try that this weekend also. I appreciate the responses. I am really confused about this. I did not have time to drive the tractor yesterday (too busy working my "real" job) and I probably will not get to drive it today either (that work thing again) I can assure you I will be on it this weekend. More fields to mow :~>

Clean air and fuel filters are important, but if the tractor runs just fine in mid-range, but not in high, I'd sure have some doubts about that being the problem, although I suppose it's possible.

I'd lean more towards Bird's line of thinking... an engine is an engine is an engine...

I'm not a hydro guy... but that seems to be the only thing that's different here...

I HAVE 145 HRS ON MY 2710. IT HAS ALWAYS OVERLOADED THE ENGINE IF I JUST "STEP ON IT". IF I WANT TO GO MAX. SPEED I ALWAYS EASE INTO IT WHEN IN HIGH. FOR ME, THIS HAS BEEN NORMAL.

I agree with the line of thinking that an engine is an engine. That is why I am confused regarding this issue. The fuel and air filters are a relatively cheap solution to try. It has me very confused. As I stated before, this has NEVER happened prior to this incident. I tried the MEDIUM range just to see if it (the problem) was consistent no matter the gear. And it isn't. Only failed in HIGH. Again, I will be trying this tomorrow or Saturday to see if the problem still exists. If so, it is off to the dealer (for the first time )

It sure does make me wonder if it isn't something to do with the transmission instead of the engine, but I don't know what it might be.

Does your engine bog down when you engage your 60" MMM? If it doesn't that should rule out engine being the problem.

I THINK YOU GUYS ARE JUST SPINNING YOUR WHEELS. (HA-HA). BIRD, DO ME A FAVOR, REV IT UP TO 2500RPM , PUT IT IN HIGH AND STOMP ON THE PEDDLE. I WILL BE VERY SURPRISED IF IT TAKES OFF.
GREG, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ON THE TRACTOR OTHER THAN A MMM.
I HAVE 550 LBS IN WHEEL WEIGHTS, A BK AND FEL.
MAYBE YOUR TRACTOR IS LIGHTER AND DOESN'T HAVE AS MUCH WEIGHT TO MOVE. I WOULD SAY THIS IS WHY MINE WILL BOG DOWN.
YOU SAID THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. HAVE YOU ALWAYS HAD THE MMM ON WHEN THE WHEELS WOULD SPIN IN HIGH?

If you are handling the tractor the same way you have in the past in H gear, and now it's acting differently, then something is different (I know, I'm stating the obvious). Are you sure it's not something silly like the parking break being on? In M or L its easy for the tractor to overpower the break and make it seem like it's not on, but in H I think a break left on would be much more noticable. Also, are you in 4WD and on a paved surface? On pavement, especially when doing turns, the gears can get bound up and present more drag. This would also be more noticable in H where the engine doesn't have as much mechanical advantage as in lower ranges.

The suggestion about trying other engine loading techniques like starting the mower might help establish if the engine is failing to produce power verses the drivetrain presenting an unusual load.
