I have a L225dt age about 1976, been told the crank is not salvageble new ones not available and it alsos needs liners etc. Bit of a mess. Been offerd a "v" series engine which is bigger hp (35) and 4 cylinder.
I know the L325dt had a 4 cylinder 35hp engine and used the same gearbox etc
Anyone know anything about compatabily of the "L" and "v" series?

I don't know if that engine would be compatible with your tractor, but I suspect a 4-cylinder engine may (but not necessarily) require a longer chassis.

In any event, Kubota label their 3-cylinder engines as "D" series and their 4-cylinder engines as "V" series. (I read somewhere that that is based on German terminology.) For example, a D1100 series is 3-cylinder, 1.1 litres and a V1500 series is 4-cylinder, 1.5 litres, with various versions in each series, e.g V1505.

The "L" series (as you know) is a tractor label, as is "B", "M", etc. An "L" model tractor could have a "D" or a "V" engine, depending on whether it was 3- or 4-cylinder.

Hi Treebee,

I know this is an old thread - but I find myself in nearly exactly the same situation - except my crankshaft is broken. I have a L1501, but someone before I bought it has replaced the engine with a 3 cylinder, probably a D1100. Having trouble sourcing a new one (as you found). Just wondering what you ended up doing - could you get a replacement engine, or what happened?

Cheers,
