No need to duck, you got it right! Remember back in the early age of US motoring, the gas engines were very long stroke, high torque, slow rpm engines - like diesels are now - mostly........

Back to the origional topic of the thread. with all other things being equal you will almost always have more pulling power with a diesel than a gas engine. Torque curves are better.

My uncle had 2 identical IH tractors, except one was a diesel and one a gas. The HP specs were almost identical, but he could pull an extra plow with the diesel one. 3 bottom plow with the gas and 4 bottom plow with the diesel.
