Craftsman(garden tractor but looking for compact)
I took delivery on a new CX2510 about a week ago. Other than screws rattling loose on the brush guard, it seems to run great, although I’m uncertain if a couple things are normal or not.

The diesel noise is loud when the pistons fire; I expected that. But there is a marbles, bell ringing kind of sound it produces at idle and speed. Can’t really hear it warmed up at about 2000 rpm, though.

Is this normal?

Also, my rear 3 point(witha box scraper) seems a bit jerkier in operation than I’d like. Also wondering if others have experienced this.

Add a cetane improver to reduce the ignition rattle. Typical diesel cetane is just over 40. Diesel provides more/better power if the cetane is around 52ish. It could be old fuel in the tractor tank too?

It’s an old school mechanically injected diesel, they are loud and rattly. Unless you notice a lack of power or an unusual amount of smoke I wouldn’t worry about it. As for the three point, use the knob under the seat between your feet to adjust how fast the three point lowers.

My Branson is mechanically injected, and has none of the diesel rattle.

Depending on which loader you have, the pivot pins can make that exact sound if there's no weight on it. The pin by your foot on a CK with a 4030C loader can rattle around and sound like a valve is trying to exit the muffler at low rpms.

The "pinging" you hear from the engine is a caused by the Pre-Combustion cups in the engine head. The CX2510 uses an Indirect Injection Engine, in other words, there are Pre-Combustion Chambers in the head of the engine. The "pinging" is caused by the combustion that takes place in the Pre-Combustion Chamber. The engine is Mechanically Injected, but the Pre-Cups are the source of the pinging. Some mechanically injected diesels are Direct Injection (no pre-cups), which would not have the signature Pre-Cup "pinging".

The Pre-Combustion Chambers in an Indirect Injection Diesel allows for easier cold starts. The glow plugs are actually in the Pre-Combustion chamber of the head.

Hope this helps.

Bingo!
I pulled on the brush guard and the noise went away. So the bell like “ringing” was that.

nooe. New tractir, new fuel, put in additive. It was the bell sound that bothered me; found the rattle

The bucket level indicator rod on my CX2510 resonates inside it’s sleeve at specific RPMs. It took me a hot minute to track the buzzing noise down. I was worries it was the engine at first too.

The rear 3 three point on mine was very jerky as well. There is a dial between your heels to adjust it’s responsiveness. I’ve got mine dialed in well now.

Am I the only one that feels the loader is way quick when coming down? Compared to the Kubotas, mine sure is.

Might put restrictors in the down circuit one of these days.

Yes!! Its my only real complaint with my CX. It actually contributed to me dropping my brand new wood chipper off the forks yesterday taking it off the truck. Id be interested to learn more about the restrictors you mention.
