Its time for my first oil change. The manual says what weight of oil to use but is not very specific on what type. Do I need to use a diesel specific oil like Rotella or will any automotive oil, of the correct weight, work? Does someone have the part numbers for the Engine, hydraulic, and Hydro oil filters?

You need Diesel specific oil - don't remember the spec number off the top of my head.

My owner's manual (2002 TC18) states specs for the oil. What model tractor do you have?

Your dealer should have all the filters you need... Some cross to WIX, fleetguard etc, some don't.

Ditto what hasmat said. Your NH dealer carries the correct diesel oil, though you could simply find out what the spec is and buy a equivalent or superior rated oil.. ( look for those little things like 'services SC'.. etc...

Depending on your temp.. most likely the common NH 15w40 oil is gonna be your ticket.

In florida maybe /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, but in the northern climates, you'll probably want to go with a 10W30 for year round use. At least that's what my TC18 specs out.

max ambient temp for the 10W30 is ~100 (hardly ever see that up here). Min ambient temp is a lot colder than the 15W40 (do see the cold temps here).

I am doing my first oil change this week end also. I decided to stick with the oil and filters that the dealer sells for a saftey factor shoud anything go wrong with the engine or trans ( see filter post ).
I just like to be cautious.
After I'm warm and fuzzy with the new engine and feel that if is well broken in ( 1-200 Hrs.) I will switch to rotella.
Could just be me but I feel better going with OEM stuff at first.

You don't mention, and your profile doesn't indicate what model tractor you have. If it's a Class II Boomer (25, 29 or 33) on Page 3-1 of the Operator's Manual it indicates that API Service SG-CE is the minimum required. So, any oil that meets or exceeds this API Service is fine.

On Page 3-7, the following is recommended;

+40 to 120 degrees - 30W
+10 to 120 degrees - 15W-40
-10 to 120 degrees - 10W-30
-20 to 60 degrees - 5W-30

Need to know what model tractor you have. I am pretty sure the filter numbers for both Class II and III have been listed before, so a search would probably find them. When I buy filters, I tell the person behind the counter what I want and he hands them to me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm pretty sure that the oil filter is the Napa 5121. The Wix web site is really good for cross referencing the filters. I believe that that filter is also the small Power Steering filter. The large PS filter is the Napa 1536. Wix has replacements for all the air filters as well but I don't have the numbers.

Power steering filters? You mean hydraulic filters, right?

was that really the spec from the manual? I am confused if so. I thought the higher number was the hot viscosity rating, so shouldn't both xW-30 oils have the same high temperature limit?? I am just about to switch my TC24D over to Schaeffers 5W-40 synthetic oil so I can use it year round without worrying about excessive engine wear. I have been reading great things about thier products.
