Engine Oil

Have any of you fellows considered rolling the engine over a few times with the throttle closed. This should act as a prelube cycle.

Mine has never gone out and then came back on, only to go out again. I think I'd look at a different oil filter which may hold the oil better and then also consider checking the oil delivery tube that runs vertically from the crankcase up to the head. On my old 1720, I drilled the hole in one end out (can't remember which) since it looked no bigger than a pin head. The tube is pretty small as it is and with the oil cold and any restriction, it's sure to be slow flowing.

Egon, that would be easy to do if we had a mechanical shutoff for the fuel. As it is, the fuel solenoid opens as soon as you go to START position on the ignition switch. Of course, if I had my operator safety switch still connected on the seat, all I would have to do is stand up while I try to start the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Actually, as long as you don't set the fuel so high that the engine over-revs, it's a pretty slim chance of the engine not having plenty of residual lube until it starts pumping. If you started the engine immediately under load, that would be different. Then again, I'm in the "tropics" compared to some TBNers. I don't think I've ever started my tractor below freezing, much less below 0° F. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ah- haw Jinman. I sometimes forget that I live life with a very simple tractor that has no fuel valve solenoid. All I got to work with is the throttle lever.

Course for the real serious a switch for the solenoid may work. I've actually thought about one for the truck as theft prevention device.
