Just a quick check of function: did you try warming your old thermostat to see if the center pin would emerge? When hot, it should look like the one on the right, i.e. pin out.

Thanks for the warning to look carefully at the fins. It is on the list now.

I am calling the Deutz place on monday. Longs story but I had to take the thermostat out after installation. I found that when istalled, the little silver was pushed in. The secondary dome was still correct and pushed out.

Road graded today. Never got above 180.

As for the fins, on occassion I use water to clean the engine. My thought now is that maybe it was not correctly or thoroughly flushed and maybe it turned to mud and dried.

i usually use a HF engine cleaner wand and notice a big difference when I soak the cooler with something like simply green - just air does not cut it.

Close inspection on a regular basis with air/water/cleaner/degreeser or combination of above, and after cleaning inspection to make sure the fins are indeed clean and air can pass through sounds like an excellent method to keep the cooling system at it's best efficiency. Just be carefull to not use too high pressure water so to not do damage to the fins/tubes.

Just a note... Mowed a neighbors field yesterday. 2 hot hours in95 weather and the machine never got to 200 degrees. This is far better than I have ever had. I am wondering if the new thermostat allows for greater flow into the cooler. New temp sensor arrives today from Germany. Maybe this weekend....

Well, while we are waiting for Marrt to send us nifty FLIR photos of his tractor, I have to post a correction to my prior price comment. FLIR cameras aren't $20,000 anymore. There is now a $350 add-on camera back for the iPhone 5/5S that takes FLIR photos.
