Try it in gasoline. Water molecules are larger.:D

Is the float set correctly?

Don't mater if water is bigger or not.. the trick to checking a float in water is to use hot water.... heats the air in the float.. if there is a pinhole, the air expands and escapes as a microscopic line of bubbles as it expands in the float.. so thus.. all we are worried about are the air molecules being able to get out of the float pinhole.. not the water getting in.

OK guys

Cleaned needle and seat AGAIN still no change so put in new ones, runs for 5 mins then quits!? Float chamber is full when I take carb apart!? DOe s that point to a stuck jet or something?

?stuck? jet...

you maybee refering to a plugged jet? short Answer.. no.. if the mainjet was truly plugged.. she wouldn't even start.

your runs for 5 then dies still sounds like fuel delivery.. either over or underfueling.

heavy or stuck floats will flood an engine out too... sometimes they get a lil wear ont he pin mount holes at the hinge.. and cock a lil sideways and hang up on the bowl..

blocked jet is what I ment soundguy. I was thinking the flow to the carb might not be big enough, so will check the tank for crud (sediment bowl is clear). The float sits straight and doesnt catch, although the float pin isnt exactly straight.

So if the flow wasnt blocked a litttle it wouldnt be sufficient to keep her going?

Are you sure you have the float adjusted properly so it can shut off when assembled? It might be catching on the side of the bowl, or adjusted too high so it will not shut off completely and slowly flood until it stalls. If it's fuel related, and the bowl is full when it stalls it sounds like flooding to me. How do you get it restarted after it stalls?

yep.. at the moment of stall.. pull the bowl drain.. if a few ounces of fuel dribble out.. she very well could be flooding.

easy test to confirm.

[ How do you get it restarted after it stalls?[/QUOTE]

I wait 30 seconds or so and she starts right up again, then stalls a minute later. (The full bowl may be a red herring cos the fuel in the line would fill it while I was taking the carb off).
The longer I leave her before I restart the longer she runs. This is why I was thinking it was some kind of fuel starvation. My thought was if she wasnt getting a good enough flow she would stall, so the longer I leave her the fuller the bowl gets and longer she can run

My guess is the higher rpm I run her the quicker she will stall.

next time she stalls, pull the drain on the carb fuel bowl asap.. it will either drip or gush..... therein will be your answer..

Ok so just straightened the very slightly bent float pin and put the carb back together, removed the metal fuel line from the sediment bowl tiny bit of crub on the end. replaced and started her up, loosened the drain screw in anticipation of the stall.....it didnt so worked her for 30 mins, ran ok!?! No stalls.

Im sure it's not fixed long term. Im thinking some crud in the tank is blocking the flow slightly?
