I engage the PTO at 1500 rpm. Usually lower it to 1000-1500 rpm before shutting it down.
Keeping no higher than about 1500 rpm at startup is in my owner's manual. Says starting at high speed could shear the bolt.
I'd plan my mowing to not shut down at a turning point.
