Engine Running Hot

I have a 4 year old BX 2350. I have changed the air cleaner, flushed the radiator, and made sure nothing is obstructing the radiator. However, my temperature guage continues to run at the very top of the guage, only about 1/8 of an inch from the red. This is much more noticable when using one of the PTO's. Is this common and something I should not be worried about or something that should be looked into?

Yes its common. When its a hotter day out and I'm mowing, mine gets pretty high, but not in the red. My dealer said they got a lot of compaints about it, and when I bought mine, they told me about it. They said they took one of those point and shoot thermoters and measured various places, and nothing is too hot.

A side note, the radiators get plugged up with grass really easy.

A good cheap investment in a infrared thermometer would be a good idea just to be sure the gauge is not lying.These small diesels are very prone to damage by over heating and I would not take the dealers word for it. Unless of course he will personally warranty a cooked engine.:thumbsup:

If you do a search on here, you will find a lot of posts about this issue in BX's. I'm pretty confident my dealer wasn't snowing me on this issue, since so many others have posted about the same issue.

The radiators are too small on these engines . I've had cars with 900cc
gas engines , and the rads are four times the size with better fan and flow.
Very little of the BX rad needs to be occluded by grass before it starts
to over heat.

The fact that the heat sending unit on my Bx2350 is only a few inches from the muffler doesn't help matters much either.

can you shield the sensor location at all- i have a l2500 which managed to attract a lot of grass around the radiator- we just blow it out from the backsided using low pressure air and that keeps things running cool.
