I might be a bit Bias but I like my yanmar, I have worked the heck out of It over the 2 years I've owned it and has never fail me, although I was fortunate to have gotten a good one,.... and for the most part all original Yanmars are known to be good quality built tractors, however they're have been some poorly refurbish ones that has given yanmar a bad name,
it is a matter of knowing how to determine one from the other;)
Yanmar engines have been manufactured for many years, were used in large boats, has even produce engines for some JD tractors, I suppose buying a GOOD! used tractor of any sort "GOOD" defines how well the tractor has been taken care of,.... as I stated I've only had my Yanmar for a littler over 2 years, There are many other TBN members who has had them for 20+ years,
I'm sure they can better inform you about Yanmar tractors, If you are at all interested in this 2200 go over to the Yanmar forum and ask about this particular tractor, chances are someone over there has one and can tell you all about it:thumbsup: Good/or/bad;)

My Massey has always burned black smoke for 2 or 3 seconds then grey til it wams up. It has 700 hours on it and has always done this, more noticible in the winter. I've never seen a diesel engine, marine, agricutural or on road that didn't do this.

My Long 560 Smokes when I first start it and smokes all the time unless its really getting worked. My tractor is a diesel. And Long tractors are the most durable tractors ever built so it must be normal.

Mine smokes Black but not very long , that's the normal smoke. I would be a little concerned if it were blowing Blue smoke.

again, a lil blue puff at startup or if you gun it, but then clearing.. wouldn't bother me... would make me think stem seals though.

thing on a diesel as it may be hard to tell smoke color as at startup there will be unburnt fuel smoke, and on a throttle up there will be as well.

I think he going to get he Ford 1710, smokes 5-10 minutes after start up (blue) then clears, hour meter is broke, it has a Bushhog brand loader, 2wd dr, not real pretty but not beat up, would look good with paint and decals, $3300.00, is this price about right or high,

In evaluating a tractor and it's implements and if has a good FEL it's value alone would be worth 2,000-2,500 + option........
so when doing the math on the total cost of 3,300.00 only paying 800.00 -1300 for the tractor, kinda a no brainier:D

the most expensive feature of my tractor is it having a FEL, if I were to ever sell my tractor I would for certain keep the loader, example: my tractor along is probably worth 2,750 adding a loader would put it's worth around 5,000 . I'd probably not get 5-k for it with the loader, but might get 2,700 without the FEL, The person selling the ford could do the same, and actually get more by splitting them up, any good running CUT tractor of these HP should be worth 2,500-3,500 by itself,

BTW I wouldn't think it take 10 minutes for the smoke to clear, if so there might be an issue with the stem seals just as SoundGuy has stated, or worn rings... when we say normal to smoke when first started when mean briefly for only like 2 minutes or less,

I have a 1980 Kubota B7100 that I bought a year ago from a buddy when he upgraded to a newer, bigger tractor. It is a 3cyl., 16hp diesel. I remember a few years ago when he had the cracked head repaired/replaced & the injectors serviced. Mine likes her glow plugs, Winter or Summer - just have to keep them on longer in colder weather. It always starts easily (I use the decompressor as well when temps. are around -20C or lower here in Atlantic Canada), blowing a bit of white smoke when first starting, then a few puffs of black smoke (a very few), then it smooths out & picks up the revs, purring like a kitten. It has lots of power & I have worked the snot out of it in the last year. Uses absolutely no oil & is showing just under 2,900 hrs.
