Engine Speed and Shifting Question

I've never had any grinding problems when shifting like this. Even though I'm throttled up about 3/4, I always stop before changing directions. Like I said earlier, the tractor handles the change very well, never grinds, and the gears or so slow in low range that I dont have any jumping or surging when changing directions, very smooth, and my pto stays powered up in case I have limbs or brush under the cutter.

I only do this when running the cutter, otherwise I would just use the foot throttle, and power up and down, but the cutter runs much better when left powered up.

Your shuttle shift and clutch on your Mahindra will take it for years & years, that's what it was designed for. I imagine your tractor probably uses the electro/hydraulic engaged PTO like my 4110 and clutching the tractor doesn't have an effect on the PTO if you have the switch in the manual position. I run my cutter at full rated RPM's and shift forward & reverse alot every time I cut, I run it around 1500 rpm's when doing loader work and constantly shuttle shift - hasn't caused a problem in 1750+ hrs. I can shift without coming to a full stop even. If you do ever get any grinding when shifting you need to check your clutch adjustment and/or your shift cable adjustment. Keep on workin' !!
