engine speed using fel

I think it will depend on the particular tractor model, and how the pump is set up. I normally run 1800 to 2000, but I need to go to 2400 or so to get maximum lift. Often I'll set it up at 1800, and use the foot throttle to goose it before I dig in.

I thought that running up the RPM's gave you speed only, never thought of increasing it for more power.....what an idiot!

I always run near idle, figured if it couldn't lift it because the bypass was kicking in...

to add my 2 cents i usually run about 1800-2000- rpm when working with the fel, unless it is really easy stuff, but i find 1800 to be adequate for most fel work.

Well, it does speed it up too - and if I don't need the lifting power, I often find the faster response to be anoying, which when combined with the increased racket, is why I usually keep the RPMs down. Essentially, turning the pump faster gives more pressure and volume, which I think correspond to power and speed, respectively. The bypass will limit the pressure, and the pump will have a maximum volume it can move.
