I was going to remove the starter on my PT-1445, Ford industrial gas engine, and the start terminal twisted off. Yea,bummer. I thought taking off the starter would be easy, but ran into a problem. One of the starter bolts, bolts to the starter from the flywheel side. Anybody ever seen something like this. It looks like I will have to pull the engine, remove the pumps, flywheel. and don't know what else. Just stupid that all three bolts are not on the outside.

JJ seems like when a person thinks a job is going to be easy that is when everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Hope it isn't too difficult of a fix for you. If you can get penetrating oil on the part that is still in there and let it soak for a while that might help. Probably no such luck as to have enough sticking out to be able to grip it with vice grips or channel locks to get it out and probably to much of a confined area to get a left hand drill bit to get it out. Man having to pull the engine to get a bolt out, hope something comes together for you.

Maybe you could drill the third bolt out from the front to get the starter off. Fish the remnants of the bolt head out while the starter is off. Then install a thread insert into the block so you could use a bolt from the front.

The only thing that comes to mind here is that maybe there is an access hole/port somewhere to get a wrench to the bolt without having to pull the engine. I vaguely remember pulling a starter on a vehicle engine years ago which had one bolt from each side, but it's been to long to remember much else. Don't think I had to pull the engine though. I hope maybe this helps.
