Engine temperature ?

I would like to install a temp guage on my 3 cyl. diesel.(Daihatsu)
It currently has an idiot lite and my experience with them is that; when it lights up it's usually to late.
What kind of temps. (operating) are you folks seeing ?
I just thought I'd remove the electrical sending unit and install the sensor bulb there. (thermostat housing)
"Just have to find a place for the guage.
Any suggestions ?

On my Kubota gauge, it just goes to the 1/4 mark. No indication of what the temp is. The 'red' line mark is way up past the 3/4 mark. No idea what the operating temp is, but, I agree with you that it would be nice to know.
