Bore the holes out, one of the stepped bits that max's out at 1 1/8" will do a nice job.

I used a stepped bit to start the hole enlargement then used a hole saw to finish on some thick pieces. Worked well.

you guys are far more creative than me, sounds like a risky thing to do as the machines are built with specific design and purpose. my mind goes not to adaptors and creative solutions etc, but to liability issues and voided warranty claims.

just because it can be done ... should it be done ? I don't know

I am not a welder / fabricator, but I guess I was a government employee and occupational health and safety agent for far too long.

perhaps I've been stifled beyond recovery

Or weld on cat 2 ends on the tractor side of things. I'm about to weld a set on a 510 LONG in a few days. Already bought the new ends. Then I'll be cooking with grease.

What if you have a used cat 2 machine that someone already replaced the lift arm ends with cat 1 replacements? Is it okay to put it back to the original cat 2 that it was intended to be? I mean, it already has some junky dirt dobber welds on it as things are now.

Fair Point - but I think that that is the equivalent to restoring to original, rather than modifying / adapting to a new level. Either way, I don't weld etc, so it won't be me. I don't think that would void a warranty though, or push it beyond intended limits. If you have the skill, go for it :)

Warranty? I keep forgetting that some people have new stuff unlike the old stuff I have.
I worked in health and safety before retiring. I understand all too well the mindset you develop in that field. But thankfully I started out being a hardheaded weldor.

So I just enlarged 1 side and used a stepped pin. All about compromises these days :).
