Neighbor has a tractor with an early 80's vintage Peerless 4 speed transaxle, manual calls for 4 pints of EP 90 lube. The lube that is in there now looks pretty good but it doesn't have the typical "gear oil" odor. What is a EP 90 lube to refill with? I have 3 or 4 different brands of 80-90W gear oil in the shop and none of them show EP 90 in the spec/certification area.

Thanks,
Dave

90 weight gear oil. The EP stands for extreme preasure. Look at your 80W/90 gear oil bottles and find those that say they are for exteme preasure rated for use in rear axles. Gear oils for transmissions are often not EP rated while those for use in rear axles are EP rated.
