No pictures on this, and not as bad as the excavator (how do you do that!); but last fall I finished brushhogging, parked the mower, unhooked the 3PTH, and drove off. What's that snap?? look back, see half PTO shaft still attached to tractor, other half still attached to mower. D@mn, I knew I forgot something! Luckily it had pulled apart right where it telescopes, so after a few anxious moments, I was able to just push it back together, and it works fine now. Won't do that again though.

Even better same thing but found the pto shaft after backing up to reattach to another rotory cutter . Just bent where stuck in ground then wrapped on draw bar.
I will not say will not do again

I too have driven off once without unhooking the PTO shaft on my bushhog. That was when I realized that even though it looks symmetrical in shape, it isn't and will only go back in one orientation. It was one of those oval shaped shaft, not the typical square joint.

I was trying to pull a big tree stump and broke the chain which in turn caused a backlash in the front wheel drive shaft and sheared it like it was cut with a laser. I had it in L 1 just creeping so it had plenty of torque.

I was moving forward with the FEL allowing my brother in law to load in a bunch of downed limbs when suddenly a large tree came crashing down beside my tractor hitting the open cab door, but only closed it really fast. I looked back and my outside disk blade had hung on a 30 foot tall pine tree and toppled it over. I never felt it hit. Only damage was a bent disk axle that I had to completely disassemble the gang to get the axle out. A little sledge hammer work and it was good as new.

I have did my share of oh-no's but have been mighty lucky in not breaking a lot of stuff and what did break was fixed under warranty. The rest was fixed with a lot of perspiration equity in my shop.

This isn't a break something post but a bit funny in the forgetful topic. A few days ago I was going to take my boat out for a while. I had pulled it out to the storage area using my Kubota RTV then backed up my truck to the boat tongue ready to hook it up. I got sidetracked by the wife with a cooler and after putting it in the boat, got in the truck and drove forward. The wife just looked at me and pointed to the back. I had forgot to hook the boat trailer onto the bumper.

CRS syndrome at its finest.

Care to elaborate on that one John ? I am guessing the wind blew the gate in behind you .

Hey Kevin. We just got our internet back on. It's been down since Saturday's storm.

Yep, it was the gate. It weighs about 1000 lbs and sat there half of the day until I was working in the hole. This was the first day my stepson had worked with me with an inclosed cab. He saw it moving and started yelling, but didn't start the arm waving until the damage was done. It took five of us to get it un-wedged. Damage to the machine was minimal, and it just scratched the paint on the gate. If I hadn't glanced up at my boy when I did...the damage it would have done to the back of my head could have been deadly. I guess I had an angel on my shoulder that day!

That was the modular cattle guard install in my photo thread. My response to your machine question is over there too.

I've done the PTO drive shaft thing on purpose when I couldn't get it to slide back into itself, so I just pulled it apart with the tractor to clean it up and get it to slide together again.

That's just a sad picture. Like seeing a motorcycle in the back of a pickup.

Curious. Is that the guy that was inquiring how steep a slope he could operate a tractor on?

I'm curious too. The poster said he pulled it upright. Couldn't you have used the backhoe to level the tractor?
