I rented an E50 with a stumper head on it. Got rid of about 30 in a day avg size about 12” with some much larger. It worked ok. Digging them out would take far longer and with an E50 a ripper and thumb would be best to maximize the force. The stumper on the articulating arm was a very nice combo.
For fast digging you need a far larger excavator like a Cat 320 size to have enough power. Stumps are way tougher than they look. Also you will have a moonscape to level if you dig them out.
