Re: ethanol blends

Yes, we knew it was a typo...but our friend in Australia might not have, so we pointed it out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As long as we're picking on Bob, I'll also piont out that Iowa, not Illinois, is now the leading producer of ethanol. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

NCGA-Ethanol

Ethanol opponents frequently cite a study by Cornell University’s Dr. David Pimentel, who concluded that it takes 70 percent more energy to produce ethanol than it yields. Pimentel’s findings have been consistently refuted by USDA and other scientists who say his methodology uses obsolete data and is fundamentally unsound.

I can't tell if this refers to the same study, or if Dr. Pimentel just completed a new one. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Also keep in mind the resources being spent to maintain the supply of fossil fuels.)</font>

Good points. The same problem exists in the global warming debate, where both sides have opposing research and science to bolster their cases.

And as someone else pointed out in another thread, even if ethanol production is uneconomical in the long run, in the short run it could benefit national security (i.e., a short-term source of secure fuel during a war for example).

As long as we're picking on Bob . . . </font> Well blame Illinois Gov. Rod Blagovich for that error, he was being interviewed by the talking heads on a newscast not too long ago and he claimed Illinios was the leading producer. See what I get for believing a politician, I guess I should have known better /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

No problem there, he's to blame for most things in Illinois.

Oops, that wasn't too political was it?

As long as we are still picking on Bob...his name is Rod Blagojevich.

Hey, it probably took him until he was 7 years old before he could spell his own name, you can't hold me responsible for butchering the spelling of a name like that when he is not my governor. Heck, I should get bonus points just for knowing who your governor is!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
