Well if it works as good as it smells it should be some good stuff.

It smelled real familar to me, took me a couple of days to make the connection but smells the same as Bag Balm to me.

Have a jug of pure anhydrous lanolin and it has very little odor.

I am thinking I will try it on the two big springs on the garage door first.

Have fun

You wouldn't believe how many people tell me they like that smell. Hmmm.. maybe we should develop a Fluid Film men's cologne ? ;)

My introduction to the stuff was as a rust preventative on metal woodworking tools and machined table tops on saws and planers. It works great for that.

It also works well for storing firearms long-term.

Thanks to all of the posts on this topic I'm going to try using it as a lubricant. They used to make a cute little manual pump sprayer for it but I don't know if they still do. My little pump sprayer just keeps getting refilled from gallon cans.

The bag balm odor is probably from Corona (yellow and red container) since it contains lanolin. The greasy stuff in the green bag balm can has an offensive oily odor. Not familiar with any other brands.

Hi GW,

You are using fluid film from a pump sprayer like those used for pesticides etc.? Do you thin it at all?

Thanks,

Ken

No, the sprayer is a little special one from Fluid Film. They sell one, 11 oz., that is a bit larger than mine that squirts a stream only (just checked their website).

Thinning it and using a garden type sprayer or a Windex type sprayer is a great idea. The question is, what to thin it with? Since it is sold in aerosol cans it must be thinned with something.

The "AS" product is thinner than the "NAS" product. I have also seen "A" and "AR" as well as some kind of gel. Not being an expert on Fluid Film, I defer to others.

They also sell an "air gun", presumably for use with compressed air and AS or A, for about $20.

Maybe bob1008 can provide some insights.

Hi Ken and GW,
The first recommendation is to thoroughly mix the product. Fluid Film is thixotropic, and will get heavier upon sitting. Achieving room temperature with the product will help as well. If a thinning is needed, add a small amount of lightweight motor oil, or vegetable oil.

I've never really had any luck getting it to work well in a pump sprayer. I even tried some really heavy duty industrial sprayers, and it was not good.

Most people have great results using any inexpensive undercoating gun, and a small compressor applying at 40 - 60 psi.

Even the 12 oz. pump spray can that we sell does not work well. We only sell them when aerosols are prohibited for some reason.

When the "NAS" product is combined with a propellent, it becomes "AS".
"Liquid A" is thinner, but will not last as long, and has no UV protection, so it will break down faster.
"AR" is a sem-liquid gel. Not an easy application.
Fluid Film NAS or AS is by far the best general use formula for most applications on this forum, (in my humble opinion).

Please let me know if I can offer any more information.

My wife is allergic to lanolin (wool)..

I'm thinking about trying it as a repellent. :D

Most people don't have any problems. I think it may have something to do with where it's stored also. If it's kept in a garage, I'm sure the hot/cold isn't good for the shelf life. It's also possible that the people that have had issues may have gotten some product that sat in the dealers store for too long.

I agree. I keep mine stored in a heated building and I have a can about three years old that is still fine.
