I thought at least 5 billion of the 7.5 billion of money the tax payers would have to fund has not been allocated to anything, which is Good because they were doing a pitiful job of it for the functional stations that were actually built per the dollars actually spent. I can't figure out even from this article what has actually spent so maybe the money Is gone.?

Curious, on your 200+ miles trips, will you charge to 80% and not go below 20% or will you stretch it a little further?

At 0 F, I would think the 80/20 would be cutting it close.

I'm still considering an EV for my wife to replace her gas guzzling Edge ST but since our son needs to travel fairly long distances for track, cross country, and basketball I'm holding off. I think it would be difficult to find fast charging in the tiny towns we go to near the events we attend.

If I was planning a 200 mile trip in winter charge the car to 95-100% Just don't charge it like that and then park it on the charger at those settings for days/weeks, It is not good for NCA, NMC, or LiFe batteries.

If the car has LiFe batteries sure charge too 100% daily and drive the car. Short trips in the other two types 80% or less for around town

Existing “networks” of CCS chargers were government subsidized via other funding actions. I believe these were built by those primarily trying to claim real estate and market with little respect to quality of service. Tesla didn’t qualify for these funds to build Superchargers because Superchargers only served Tesla automobiles. CCS chargers were so notoriously bad automakers finally agreed to the Tesla NACS standard, so now Tesla can qualify for Federal funding.

Found 2 CCS chargers in Leoma TN at a gas station convenience store. Asked inside, no one remembers seeing anyone ever using the chargers. The sign on the chargers proudly boast of the multiple government organizations funding the site.

That would be terrible! I’ll have to liquidate my Tesla at fire sale prices because at 0.300 kWh/mile and $0.12/kWh with $2.50 gasoline I’ll only be getting the $ equivalent of 70 MPG! Doom and gloom!

Later will learn how much power my PV solar system produces. Not expecting to make more than I use, but to make at least half. Unlike ICE I will be able to make my own fuel.


Transportation Secretary Butthead loaded the bid requirements with every woke and DEI requirement known. Impossible requirements. Thank goodness because the deployment strategy is seriously flawed in pretending what works for ICE works for EV.

EVs do not need government subsidized “gas stations” at every street corner those in government who do not drive EVs imagine. What is needed is simple at-home L2 charging, and some fast charging support on major traffic corridors..

You keep telling us the gas station model is not needed. Do you realize many Americans live in condos, apartments and rentals and cannot charge at home? I guess it sucks to be them.

Drill Baby Drill is already the moto with Chevron etc. I find it funny everyone thinks a president controls oil prices.

Covid crashed oil prices to the point small producers had to pay to get rid of it. Many working owner interest operators went broke, At $40 a barrel there is almost no profit in it for a producer. It is market forces that affect the gas prices.

The US produced more oil and natural gas than any other country in 2023 and 2024, maybe we will out produce the last couple years, time will tell.

Forcast for oil rigs in the lower 48 was flat before the election at around 590 rigs.

A new update this year will help clear up the 2025-2026 -2027 forecast


Spears and Associates estimates US Lower 48 rig count will stay primarily where they are year-on-year from 2024 (598 rigs) to 2025 (587 rigs). With E&Ps focused on capital discipline and profitability, the industry is unlikely to see a rash of new supply entering the market.

You say you look at the big picture, but a 35 mpg ICE is a boring underpowered thing, whereas the EV could be a total torque monster with 3 second 0-60 times. Hardly apples to apples.

Give me a 500+ hp ICE over an EV any day, but mine get 12 mpg on a good day. If you're going to strap me to 35 mpg requirements, please take the ICE away... it's a turd.

Sure does! Where ever will apartment dwellers keep their horses and tractors? Your ignorance is showing in that you automatically think apartment dwellers get parking spaces for automobiles. If one wishes to park an automobile then one must shop for an apartment with a parking space or rent a parking space nearby.

Apartments didn't used to come with air conditioning. Or kitchens. Or cable tv. Or broadband internet. Or swimming pools. If renters want these things then they vote with moving trucks to a place which provides. I delivered newspapers to apartment complexes during high school and witnessed a high turnover rate of people moving to better apartments.

Consider what happened in Chicago that got so much media attention last year. Gas Station Model failing for gullible Chicagoans.

Traveling from East Central Illinois to Southern Illinois looks problematic to me. I entered some destinations into the Tesla trip planner to see what they recommend. What happens if you plan a trip with their website and you get less mileage than they anticipate? Chargers seem to be few and far between in the areas we travel.

You have to listen and drive your EV just like Grumpy. You don't need " gas station model" chargers ! You must just charge at home ! ......and for you apartment dwellers, don't worry, Grumpy delivered newspapers to apartment dwellers when he was a kid and saw that they move sometimes to better buildings. So they will figure it out. ..... sarcasm off now.
