Let me start with: I couldn't have done it without TBN! Thanks for all of the ideas, pictures, and encouragement you've given others! I just started posting but have been lurking and learning for nearly a year.

Here are pics of the pallet forks I made for my JD 2210 and 210 loader. My main goal was to get them LIGHT. The 210 loader only lifts ~700Lbs and adding a 300 Lb set of forks would've really hurt.

The forks are 1"x2"x42" rated at 900lbs. and the pins are 1" w1 drill rod. I can stall out the hydraulics with 1 fork taking the load with no appearant damage so I think they'll be good to go.

Things I'd do differently:

1. Buy the top quick attach from JD for $10.50ea instead of spending 3 Hrs fabricating them.
2. paid my metal supplier to shear the 1/4" sheet to the size I needed instead of cutting them with a torch. They usually don't even charge me for a few cuts (I know, I know..I need a plasma cutter..)

I only have a HF bandsaw, hobart handler 140 welder, a portable oxy acy torch, a vise, a cheap 4" angle grinder, and a die grinder so it takes time:D OH yah, and a HAMMER.

They seem to work well and I can say they are one of the handiest things I've used, everybody should have a set!

Very nice! Where did you get the forks from?

Nice looking forks. I am looking to build something just like this. John deere wants $850 for a set of forks! Just a little steep for my blood. Where did you buy your forks? I want to build this same setup for my 2350 with a 200cx loader. It lifts 899 lbs. Where did you get your design? Also you said that john deere sells the quick attach, do you happen to know the part numbers.

Good job on the build. Looks good. I can't wait to use the one's I just made.

Dale 1995 Try these numbers for the deere parts

W 43359 for the Hook
W 47211 for the pin.

Yeah, really nice job and those light weight forks are great!
Probably good enough for most of the CUT's around here anyway, especially if the rating is 900lbs each. The ones I'm getting ready to adapt to my fel weigh a ton, although my lift capacity is quite a bit more than yours. Even so, I was hoping mine would be a lot lighter like yours.
I like the guard too. Very nice work.

First class work!

I only disagree with buying the brackets for $10.50 to save three hours work. What is a shop for if you can't work in it for no more than half the minimum wage? Heck, I spent almost that much time Saturday hunting a piece of 4140 5/8" x 4" bar stock that I knew I had last year.

Seriously, great job.

One thought: the maximum stress on forks usually comes when the loader is being curled rather than raised. That is the "breakout force".

Second thought, what do you do with that old easy-trip Danforth anchor near the door. One of those left me high and dry in the Dry Tortugas several years when the wind shifted.

Nice Work!
Paint the tips of the forks back an inch or so yellow, easier to see the ends.
Sooner or later I am bound to catch one of my cars with my forks that way I'll know how far in I went.:D

Thanks for all of the kind comments!

The forks were from "In the sand box" in Kansas City, Mo. they are a retailer for Arrow material handling. Find a U.S. Dealer near you - Arrow Material Handling

I paid $200 but I think if I'd called a few more dealers I might have found them a little cheaper. They had them to my door in 2 days so I'm happy.

As far as design, I just winged it. I looked at a lot of pics here and did a lot of what my wife calls "sit and stare". She's pretty sure I don't do anything in the shop except stare at inanimate objects for hours:D I didn't put anything on paper until today when I sketched out how I would do it if I were to build another set.

I figured materials at about $380 for everything including having the plate pieces sheared to size and getting the quick attaches from JD. Those two items would save ~ 6hrs on the build for very little extra money.

The weight break down:
Frame 83
Forks 50
Shafts 10

Total 143

Again, I couldn't have done it without the fine folks here. Thank you!

You may find it handy to have some way of occasionally fixing the forks to the bottom bar. I think these swing up forks are largely designed for forklifts carrying pallets on nice level surfaces. Around my yard I've sometimes found it handy to be able to apply downward pressure with the point of the forks. Real nice work though. I like the weight (or lack of it). My forks are much heavier than they need to be.

In the first pick I saw possibly a "homemade" set of forks - Did my eyes deceive me?

I am in the same boat and I cannot decide whether I want to use 2"x2" box tube to make the forks (since my tractor like yours is not going to lift the world) or go with the 900lb ones like you have.

Nice job on yours

bx24, yep. Good eye! They were a set I had used on the blade of my 455 to move little things around. It only lifted ~400 lbs a foot or so but was handy with some little 2'x2' pallets I had.

When I first started building the pallet frame the plan was to use them after beefing them up a bit. I started getting cold feet when it was almost finished and ordered the others. When they arrived I changed the frame to fit the new ones.

The crazy thing is they lift the loaders max weight just fine! I don't know how they would hold up for the long haul though. I may still make them a little stronger and use them for the smaller stuff because they are easier to get around with.

I'm thinking the top bar "left over" from them may be the perfect place for a thumb of some sort....

Gizom2 , Thanks! - I took your advise and painted the tips yellow..makes sense, I'd hate to bury them into the car and not have a quick reference to how far in they went.

Farmerford,
My driveway seems to collect anchors. I lost three anchors last year and the word got out in the nieghborhood so now they just "show up" every now and then...

My next door neighbor lost a shovel from the back of his truck and made the mistake of asking if anyone had seen it on our road. I've left three old beat up shovels on his porch and I know of at least two more that found their way. He say's "his" shovel hasn't come home yet. Must be hanging out with my anchors because none of the ones that "appeared" have been mine either..

I guess I could have worse neighbors, not stranger, but worse!
BTW, I used to live in the Keys and spent some time around Dry Tortuga. Great snorkeling around there.
