Ever hear of Allmand tractors?

I didn't think Tafe (LG) offered a HST tractor. It looks very much like a TYM tractor. Look at the MahindraUSA website & look at the 3510HST, very similar. I know TYM was using Daedong engines in the Mahindra badged units & Kubota engines in the ones sold under their own name but, the Mitsubishi engines are new to me. Not to confuse the loader/backhoe units Allmand makes for the rental industry, different animal altogether. Taylor rental has the backhoe unit & I might rent it for my latest home repair, the electricity to the barn has one dead leg. My friend's TC35 w/Woods 9000 is on a jobsite making him $ & is unavailable /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

My point for me and me only is that I have 5 local Kubota dealers in my area within an hour drive. Allmond until I saw one at the rental place that I know of has no dealers around my area. If I needed a part my odds would be better getting one locally that day then calling Allmond.

If I didn't make my point very clearly then shame on me. For a person who is new to tractors like me and having no knowledge of them what I like about the Kubota or Deere or NH for that matter is that I can go locally to a place for support. Allmond doesn't offer that.

So price of course is the next consideration in my mind that I think most people would evaluate. Can the cost of the Allmond sway my decision? Well if you can get the TLB for less than a Bota or JD then hey thats worth a second look. But the price as I looked at it didn't justify it.

Just my opinion which I respectfully offer to everyone. Dummy you obviously disagree, which I respect. And don't worry about not understanding me because my wife can't either. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm not saying the tractor is a piece of junk. For all I know it's the best thing sence sliced bread. But dropping 20k on a tractor has a lot of variables to consider. Local support to me is important.

I went to Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island NE today.
Came across a Vermeer dealer that had Allmand tractors. I thought that name sounded vaguely familiar but didn't know much about them. Turns out they have a tractor labeled 8435 and 8435HST. Both are powered by a 36hp Mitsubishi 4 cylinder engine. Rough quote for the HST was about $18k.
They also had some small TLB units that looked similar to the Terra-Mite. Now here's the kicker- I picked up a spec sheet and find out that Allmand is located nearby in the small town of Holdrege, NE. I grew up about 70 miles from there and had no clue about this outfit. A look at their website- www.allmand.com shows that their primary products are portable light towers and the large arrow/sign boards used in highway construction. From reading the website, Allmand has acquired several companies that make various products over the years, and I suspect that very few of the products are actually manufactured in Holdrege. I'm thinking that the tractors are manufactured by someone else and badged in Allmand's name and color (which is kind of a pale orange). Anyone one else know anything about these tractors?

My local rental place has a couple of them out front. I'm guessing they are cost effective units or they would have been sold and replaced.

A friend was looking for a Terramite & I ended up looking at an Allmand. Very similar to the Terramite & both are focused on the home gamer either directly or more likely via rental shop. Both used mostly outsourced OEM parts... Kubota or Kohler engines, Eaton HST. So you could maintain things without the dealer if need be.

They are both heavy stout machines compared to a B or BX, significantly heavier for the frame same size. But with 25hp engines they were slow. Walking or jogging speed slow & only had a 1 speed HST. No gearbox to maintain or confuse rookie operators, so effective & simple, but slow. Because of the weight & how for ballast the ones I saw had pretty high loader capacities, 1 ton or so. On a machine a frame size smaller than my then L3200, which was only rated to lift 1,200lbs. The L3200 was 32hp & 2,500lbs loaded (no hoe). While a bit footprint wise the smaller the big Terramite & Allmand were double the weight. Made for some pretty effective machines for their size lift & dig wise, but slow to move with those small engines. Fuel efficient though, especially for digging all day I expect.

The friend ended up with a Terramite as she'd had one before & was happy with it. I'm much more likely to borrow it than another friends 40 year old John Deere 12,000lbs industrial hoe (again). The old iron will do way more work but is a pain to transport & more work to operate.
