C'mon, spill the beans. What did you do?

While busting up the concrete in front of the shed door, whacked the left hand. I'm still wondering if it is cracked/broke. I don't want to go to the doc with the covid virus around.

The older I get the more regrets I have and usually not about what I've bought but about what I've lost or sold. Memories of those things can be either a blessing or a curse.

I bought a used Toyote Tacoma w. 50,000 miles,4 cyl. eng.,all records, spotless truck. Developed a slight knock @ 90,000 mi.. I had 3 different mechanics who I know are really sharp and all thought timing chain but no one wanted to tear into it. In this period of time, about 4 years, we bought my wife a 2007 Toyota Solara 4 cyl., brand new.I finally took the Tacoma to the dealer and the service mgr. said he had never heard of a problem with the timing chain on that engine but they would check it out.Turned out he was right, t.c. was fine, so I told him to find the problem as it was driving me nuts.He called about a week later and said it was the wrist pins. The price they wanted was more than I was willing to pay so when I went to pick it up with my trailer one of the mechanics made me an offer and I sold it to him.

As time went on my wife's Solara started using oil quart about every 1K mi. I thought must be simple like a P.C.V. valve. Got on inter web and found out that this was a problem that was common with a bunch of those engines in that time period as they had got a batch of bad piston and ring assys. and extended the warranty to 10 years. Our car was right at that age so we took it to the dealer and he checked the VIN.# and said we were 2 weeks over the time.We went inside and talked to the owner who said that Toyota was very strict on their limits and there was nothing he could do.I was really burned up and just walked out.

We had moved to our current home about the time this problem was discovered so it is entirely possible that we never got the letter from Toyota Corp. advising about the problem due to address change. But 2 Weeks on an obviously pampered little old ladies car? Come on.

I will never buy another Toyota product. I also had the first wife deal 60 years or so ago but that"s another story.

AMC Eagle. I had a mil surplus 4-speed early Wagoneer. No AC, no anything actually - drum brakes, no power steering, hand crank windows and tailgate window, basically a Jeep with long wheelbase. (photo - I was better looking 40 years ago). With the first kid, we wanted an offroad vehicle with at least air conditioning. But the typical dressy Wagoneers, used, cost 3x what I had paid for this one. This was before the little Cherokees etc were available, that would have been a good upgrade.

So I found an 18 month old used AMC Eagle. Great, I thought, this thing is 20 years more sophisticated than the Kaiser Wagoneer.

Wrong. 11-12 mpg. Gutless. Both AC and heat simply not there, Consumer Reports said something like both were useless like they had never seen before, so mine wasn't unique. Towing a modest camp trailer in 100 degree weather cooked the transmission, nothing broken but spurting oil out of every seal, $1,000 rebuild. Other minor stuff but you get the idea. Oh - that 'revolutionary' full time front wheel assist via a fluid coupling that stiffened firm when stressed - was terrifying to throw into a curve on a twisty dirt logging road. Unlike the Wagoneer that you could corner expertly like a WRC rally cup Subaru (but obviously, slower), you could throw this into a corner on a perfect arc to come out the other end of the curve but there was no control over which way the nose was pointed when you got there. This Eagle was not what I expected. Sold it after a while. A Trooper was a far better replacement. (photo2)

Clamp on pallet forks.
...actually they were ok for lighter work, cheap and worked as long as I could keep the clamp screw unbent. Which wasn’t often.
