Everlast PowerArc 200 Arrived Today

I only use the old school helmets. I'm not going to pay $5.00 for a clear cover lens! I started out with a Huntsman, (in school) went to a Fibre-Metal Tigerhood with hardhat adapter, (wore them for years) and now a Huntsman 700. I have tried a couple auto lenses that fit in the 2 x 4 1/4 helmet, I can see where they really help with aligning the rod over the joint before you start. But I went back to the old Lincoln Super Visibility.

The hot start is very nice, I wish it was just a little hotter, but it does work great for restarts.
A little trick you could try to help you with starting a new rod, keep a little piece of scrap metal with you, just before you're ready to start welding, stick the new electrode to the scrap piece for a few seconds, this will warm the rod up for you. It really helps!;)

Hey Shield, I have the PA200's little brother the PA160, and I really like it a lot, I haven't fired up my Lincoln AC welder since I got the Everlast:thumbsup:. My welds are looking better the more rod I burn, and burning rod with the PA160 is fun! I am not going to bury the Lincoln, yet, I am hoping to sell it to someone who wants a hernia:laughing:

I find I'm setting my current readout equal too or close to the rod diameter. How about you?

I tryed everywhere from 65 to 115. I like that as a rule of thumb. 3/32 = .093, 1/8" = .125 and 5/32" = .156.

Do you have a PowerArc?

I sure do like this welder!:D I like it well enough I might be able to practice regulary enough to weld decent, believe me I need a quite a bit of improvement.

Yes. PowerArc 200. Got it last week or so from Mark.
I've noticed it likes a shorter arc than an xformer welder. My Linde HeliArc 250 is in the repair shop and may be DOA.
It looks like you can run a bead so I'd get some 1/4" plate scraps and make T joints, start running fillets. There is a lot of talent on TBN so I'm sure the guys can answer any questions that come up.
I like doing small stuff with stick when most people would use TIG.
Made this loader 3rd function switch box from a piece of 1"x1" tube. Cut a pie shape out and welded it back. Welded on a split shaft collar for mounting.
