They run 6011's very well.
With 7018, 1/8", you weld fine as well. But as you probably are aware, welding a thick slug of metal in in a single pass isn't recommended. But if your asking what it'd do in a single pass, I'd say around 1/4". I have run 5/32 7014, if you are wondering.

Ok great. What I was wondering is more the pratcial limit for this machine doing multi pass work. (if there is one)

No, not really. But if you need more than ( or a lot) of 1/2" plates welded, you'd want to step up to a larger machine, no doubt.

OK, I normaly work with 3/8 or under, but I have at least one project coming up that is going to be made of basicaly all 3/4 inch plate. It isnt too big, but it will have atleast a few feet of weld. Do you think I should get a bigger welder? Would the powerarc 200 be better?

Duty cycle could become a problem, if you stuff rod after rod in.

You won't go wrong with a PA200 if you have 240V and don't need the TIG process.

Ok I wouldnt be able to afford the reg and argon tank for a while anyays. I have a lincoln ac tombstone already, so power is no problem. I think I probably will spend a bit more and get the pa 200.

Deerman I have the PA160, and this summer I welded the SSQA mounting plate on to my old Kubota bucket, and I did stuff them in as fast as I could. ( maybe 8 foot of weld bead of 7018 1/8 at 122 amps) I felt the little PA160 and it was just barely warm. However it's duty cycle is quite a bit higher than the PA140. I would have gotten the PA200, but it was on backorder at the time, so I wound up with the PA160. But I haven't had the need to run the larger rods, so I am pretty happy with mine. The results with some fresh 7018 sure look better than anything I ever did with the AC225.

I dont have quite enough power to run the pa200 at full amperage, but I could probably get 180 amps out of it or so. I would be fine with the pa 160, but I would rather spend the etra $50 and get the 200

You get the PowerArc 200, in time you could always pickup a Tig rig, flow meter, and bottle of argon, and have a fine scratch start Tig. I would hate to guess how many x-ray quality welds are made everyday with a Tig rig. ;)

Have you ever hooked up the ln 25 to the pa 200? I wonder how good it would be at that.
