everthing but new #7 backhoe

I hope that this is a good deal ..... #7 backhoe complete with only 19 hrs on it.... a trade in tractor looks like the bucket has never been used still has the paper sticker on the side of it $3500.00 for everything except power beyound ... dealer wants $150.00 to installed backhoe on my tractor .. he also wants another $300.00 for the power beyound and to install it total price $3950.00 ..same dealer ask me two months ago $6700.00 for new ... only new has warranty .....

As long as you are getting a bill of sale with serial numbers on it, I say go for it. I just ordered one for $6500 installed with power beyond. Someone else's buying mistake is saving you about $2500. Even if you had to spend a couple hundred on it over the next 6 months, that is still a huge savings. If the original owners manual is missing, you can get one from the parts dept for $25.

This is at a big John Deere dealer in my home town I'm sure it's on the up and up ...I was fixing to buy a used backhoe from fla... but with shipping the cost was about the same ...I've never ran a backhoe .... so other that taking it slow ...any advice on do's and don'ts

I'd say that's a very good deal. I paid around $5K for my used one a few years back. See if you can talk the dealer into a 30 day warranty or something, just to cover possible nicks in cylinders or other things that would show up quickly. Have they operated it for you? Mine had sat outside for a couple of years so the dealer put all new hoses on it. Also, mine had never been registered for warranty so they were able to give me the new purchase coverage.

Hope it works out for you, nothing quite as much fun as operating a hoe.

Thanks RobS I haven't thought about the fact that it might have never been registered for warranty . I'll be sure and ask about that ... It's all over but the playin ..I mean working ... should get my tractor back today from the dealer ... everything is warranty to work right within a couple of days of pickup .. so I'll really put it to work this weekend.. How are you liking your #7? I look at alot of three piont hoes.. but I,ve always had good luck with JD .and the fact that the #7 is built for the 790 sure help. Have you ever heard of the 3 point braking the bellhousing on some tractors?

Over the years here on TBN, there have been occasional mentions of tractors breaking in half due to backhoes. I think there may have even been one picture of such an incident. I'd say it's a rare occurance for sure and not likely to happen with a 7 backhoe, it's just not that strong. It will toss the tractor around a little but overall it's a well balanced package on my 790. It's probably my least used, but most fun implement. I dug a drywell for a neighbor a month ago and haven't had it on since. That's precisely why I wanted a Deere, frame mount model. The mounting and dis-mounting is so easy.

If you work it pretty hard this weekend, that should show any problems. If none, you'll be good to go for a long time I suspect.

I put new seals in one of my stabilizer cylinders this spring. I had dropped a piece of concrete on the piston rod and it got a small nick. New seals and some steel wool to the rod and it's AOK. I have the seals to do the swing cylinders but haven't bothered yet. They weep a bit which I've heard is common on the #7 due to their location. They're in the perfect spot to pick up a lot of dirt while digging.
